More illegal e-bikes and e-scooters taken off the streets in Camborne |
||
|
Officers in Camborne recently seized three e-bikes and two e-scooters as part of their continued efforts to tackle their antisocial use in the town. Since the start of January this year, a total of ten seizures have taken place in the town in response to community concerns raised around their unsafe and illegal use. The law states that it is illegal to ride an e-scooter on public land - this includes roads, pavements and cycle lanes. They can only be ridden on private land with the landowners permission. E-bikes cannot be ridden on pavements and must only be ridden on cycle paths or anywhere else pedal bikes are allowed. Inspector Lou Brown, who heads up the neighbourhood teams in Camborne, said: “We know that the careless use of e-bikes and e-scooters has caused some concerns in the community. “We really don't enjoy seizing items that have clearly cost a lot of money, but it’s important that people who use them ride them safely and in line with the law. “They’re heavy bits of kit and can potentially cause serious injury, either to the rider, other road users or pedestrians if ridden dangerously. “That’s why we carry out important activity like this, to keep everyone safe and prevent unnecessary incidents.” Commenting on the importance of education, Insp Brown added: “I’m pleased to say that the majority of people continue to ride their bikes safely; it’s the minority who have made illegal modifications or use them carelessly that we are looking to target and educate. “We urge people to report if they see or suspect someone is using an e-bike or e-scooter illegally.’ Officers will be working with schools and retailers across Camborne over the coming months to raise awareness of and reduce this problem.
